Darkest Dungeon is an indie video game franchise created and published by Red Hook Studios, founded and currently headed by art director Chris Bourassa and lead designer Tyler Sigman. The first game “Darkest Dungeon” was released in January 2016, its sequel “Darkest Dungeon II” (or “Darkest Dungeon 2”) released in May 2023.

Ever since the release of Red Hook Studios’ first game, a dedicated community has followed the game’s development and future undertakings to the point of forming a large fanbase, the number of followers still growing to this very day. This has brought in many artists, writers, and content creators to enjoy and expand off their favorite game by utilizing their own individual talents. Fan creations of Darkest Dungeon were evergreen, and with the public developments and early access of the highly anticipated Darkest Dungeon 2, the community became as active as ever.

“The Mountains and the Valleys - a Darkest Dungeon Fan Art Zine” highlights the creations of the community’s favorite loyal and talented fans. Though mostly consisting of visual art works, this zine also wants to highlight the writers, the musicians, the actors, the video creators, and any and all content makers that love Darkest Dungeon. This project is made by fans for fans, powered by the support this video game franchise has created and maintained.
